2 Mon enfance  Quand j’étais petite, j’avais un chien Deenie. Elle était petite et brune.

3 Mon éléphant  J’avais aussi un éléphant Peanuts. Peanuts était rose et jouait de la musique.

4 Moi, l’enfant parfait ??  En général, j’étais un petit ange.

7 L’imparfait- Pourquoi?  The imperfect is used to describe what things were like in the past and/or how things used to be.  In my story, I was describing how things were during my childhood, not saying specific events that happened on a particular occasion. Therefore, I had to use the imperfect.

15 A vous maintenant!  Maintenant, essayez d’écrire trois phrases à l’imparfait pour illustrer votre enfance. Une phrase avec avoir et une phrase avec être.  (Now try writing two of your own sentences in the imperfect to illustrate your childhood. One with avoir and one with the verb être.

16 How to do it: 1. Choose your verb  aimer – to like 1. Use the ‘nous’ form of the present tense  nous aimons 3. Drop the ‘nous’ and the ‘-ons’  nous aimons 4. Choose your pronoun and add the correct imperfect ending (see next slide)

18 Shorcuts  Regular er and re verbs: you can just take off the –er or -re and add the endings.  Regular –ir verbs.: You can take off the –ir and add -iss plus the ending.  Irregular verbs in the present: YOU MUST go to the nous form of the present tense add drop –ons. See reference sheet.
