19 1.What are these words called? They are called nouns. They name a place, a object or a person. 2. Did you notice anything? Each noun had UN or UNE before it. Some started with UN and some started with UNE. 3. Why do you think that is? In French nouns are either MASCULINE or FEMININE.

21 What do you think un, une and des are? They are called articles. Do you think they are definite or indefinite articles? They are indefinite articles. Why do you think we have three different ones? Un is for masculine, une for feminine and des for pluriel.

23 LES NOMS A noun (nom) names an object, a person or a place. In French it is always accompanied by an ARTICLE such as : UN, UNE,DES. Nouns are either FEMININE or MASCULINE, it is called the gender of a noun Example: un cahier, une chaise, des crayons de couleur Write some more examples of nouns: MasculinFéminin 1un styloune règle 2un bicune feuille 3un crayonune chaise

We need to use a dictionary, the dictionary will tell us if: - we have a noun : n - we have a noun which is feminine: n.f. / n.fem. - we have a noun which is masculine: n.m. / n.masc - we have a noun which is feminine plural: n.f.pl. - we have a noun which is masculine plural: n.m.pl.
