2 IMPARFAIT Imparfait also expresses past actions – Things you USED to do – More than once or over a period of time To form the imparfait follow 3 steps – Step 1: Put the verb in present tense nous form – Step 2: Drop the ‘ons’ to form the stem – Step 3: Add the imparfait ending that agrees with subject

3 IMPARFAIT Imparfait endings Je ______ aisnous ______ions Tu ______ aisvous ______ iez Il/elle ____ aitils/elles ____ aient Only 1 irregular stem in all of imparfait – Etre -> ét – Example J’ étais jeune = I used to be young

4 EXAMPLES Manger – Mangeons -> mange – Je mangeais du fromage. Venir – Venons ->ven – Nous venions au zoo. Jouer – Jouons -> jou – Ils jouaient aux petites voitures. Choisir – Choisissons -> choisiss – Elle choisissait des livres faciles.
