1 Français Comment tu t’appelles?
This lesson aims to be the first introduction to French. The aim is to teach this explicitly in a 30-minute session and then practise the greetings in registration on a daily basis. There are audio files embedded into the powerpoint – just click on the speech bubbles. Translations of the text will be shown in the PPT notes. The aim is to support each formal lesson with a song and other resources (online / worksheets / flashcards, etc) to allow teachers to continue with language learning during registration and normal class time when possible. Je m’appelle Wen Je m’appelle Lucia Je m’appelle Luc Ouaf! Ouaf! (chorus) Comment, comment, comment ça va? Dis-moi! comment ça va? (répétez!) Comment ça va? Ça va très bien Comment ça va? Je suis triste Comment ça va? J’ai faim Comment ça va? Jai sommeil (Chorus!) Je vais tres bien, et toi? Je vais tres bien aussi. Et Cosmo? Il a sommeil. Il dort. Bonne nuit Cosmo! This is a song that is used as the basis for this block of vocabulary. It is suggested that you first begin with listen and repeat (speaking) then you click on the hyperlink in the title and sing along with the song (on You Tube). The first half of the song only is used for the first part of the lesson (you will need to pause it at the end of the first half) and the second half is used with lesson 2 (although you could teach it / play it in between). Translation (first half): Dis-moi! Dis-moi! – tell me! Tell me! Comment tu t’appelles? – what are you called? Comment tu t’appelles? – What are you called? Comment, comment, comment tu t’appelles? (x3) – What, what, what are you called? Dis-moi! Comment tu t’appelles? – Tell me! What are you called? (répétez!) - (repeat) Je m’appelle Wen – I’m called Wen Je m’appelle Lucia – I’m called Lucia Je m’appelle Luc – I’m called Luc Ouaf! Ouaf! (chorus) – Woof woof! (chorus) Translation (second half): Comment, comment, comment ça va? – How, how, how are you? Comment, comment, comment ça va? - How, how, how are you? Dis-moi! comment ça va? – tell me! How are you? (répétez!) – (repeat) Comment ça va? Ça va très bien – How are you? I’m very well. Comment ça va? Je suis triste – How are you? I’m sad. Comment ça va? J’ai faim – How are you? I’m hungry. Comment ça va? Jai sommeil – how are you? I’m sleepy. (Chorus!) Je vais tres bien, et toi? – I’m very well, and you? Je vais tres bien aussi. – I’m very well also. Et Cosmo? – And Cosmo? Il a sommeil. Il dort. – He is sleepy. He’s asleep. Bonne nuit Cosmo! – Good night Cosmo! This song forms the basis of the majority of the the language for this half-term and should ideally be sung regularly. It could be performed at a school concert, etc… You should encourage the students to use gestures – these are detailed in the following slides.

Comment tu t’appelles? Je m’appelle Harry Styles Asking and answering – What are you called? I’m called? It is really important to encourage the students to ask and answer the question in full sentences. You could do this as a listen and repeat and then for the next few slides choose students to ask and answer the question (the answer appears on the click). I have chosen popular celebrities or characters that Y3 students are likely to know – you could add any specific ones yourself!
