PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABILITY - TNS 1. Reduce or eliminate use of natural materials that create pollution (e.g., fossil fuels) 2. Reduce or eliminate use of man-made materials that create pollution (e.g., chemicals and plastics) 3. Eliminate overuse or destruction of nature and natural resources (e.g., clear cutting, floodplain development) 4. Stop contributing to activities/actions that undermine peoples ability to meet their basic needs (e.g., unhealthy working conditions, purchasing items produced in sweat shops). 15
