3 Les terminaisons (endings) des verbes en –ER sont:
JE -> E TU -> ES IL -> E ELLE -> E NOUS -> ONS VOUS -> EZ ILS -> ENT ELLES -> ENT

4 THE STEM OF THE VERB IS THE VERB WITHOUT THE ENDING
What is the stem of “acheter”?? ACHET NOTICE HOW THE SPELLING (EVEN THE ACCENTS!!) DOES NOT CHANGE What is the stem of “préférer”?? PRÉFÉR What is the stem of “amener”?? AMEN What is the stem of “espérer”?? ESPÉR

5 TO CONJUGATE A BOOT VERB, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CHANGE ONE LETTER ONE LETTER ONLY
Quelle lettre change?? La lettre “E” DEVANT la dernière consonne (the letter “E” BEFORE the last consonant of the stem) So what happens to that “E” then? That “E” before the last consonant of the stem becomes “è” E accent grave! E accent grave! E accent grave! E accent grave! E accent grave! E accent grave!

6 Attention: IL Y A DEUX EXCEPTIONS!!!
NOUS et VOUS The “E” does NOT change in the “nous” and “vous” forms. So does the “E” in ACHETER et AMENER have any accent in the nous and vous forms?? NON !!!!!! Nous achetons Vous achetez Nous amenons Vous amenez

7 Wait…so what happens with the accents aigus in préférer et espérer???
THEY STAY THE SAME IN THE NOUS AND VOUS FORMS! BECAUSE the STEM does NOT change in the NOUS and VOUS forms. So even though the “É” becomes ACCENT GRAVE (È) in all other forms, it stays ACCENT AIGU (É) with these two forms. Nous préférons Vous préférez Nous espérons Vous espérez
