64 61.) Réservation - details This kind of sentence happens a lot in bus/train stations. Here you need to say at least your full name and destination. You may add the time as well. The higher roleplays really need you to think carefully about the situation you are in. 65 62.) Restaurant/Toilettes? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. This is quite easy: simply ask if there is a restaurant/toilets on the train/bus/plane. Il y a un reataurant / les toilettes dans le train / lautobus / lavion? ASKING WHETHER THERE IS A RESTAURANT CAR / TOILETS

66 63.) Arrivée à Londres / Départ du train? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. Ask what time the train/plane arrives / leaves. ASKING WHAT TIME THINGS ARRIVE / DEPART TIP – Look carefully at the words on the sheet, they may help you with the answer. Arrivée = arrival Le train pour Londres arrive à quelle heure? Départ= departure Le train pour Londres part à quelle heure? Le train pour Londres arrive à quelle heure? Le train pour Londres part à quelle heure?

67 64.) Visite à Nice - quand? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. Ask when your friend wants to visit a town/place. ASKING WHEN TO VISIT A PLACE TIP – Be careful to use Quand? – When? NOT À quelle heure? - What time? Quand est-ce que tu veux visiter Nice?

68 65.) Repas? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. Ask where you are going to eat? ASKING WHERE YOU CAN EAT TIP – Try to use future tense here. If you arranging a trip and you see the word repas, you need to ask about eating arrangements. The second sentence is a good example of using a common word restaurants to ask the question. Où est-ce quon va manger? Il y a un restaurant? Now imagine you are going to a work experience placement and want to know about eating arrangements.

69 66.) Souvenirs Say you want to buy some souvenirs – For higher grades, say what you want to buy and for whom. SAYING YOU WANT TO BUY SOUVENIRS TIP – Always give as much relevant information as you can. If you just say you want to buy some souvenirs, you will not get the highest marks. Je voudrais acheter des souvenirs pour ma famille. Je vais acheter un t-shirt pour ma mère et un chapeau pour ma soeur

70 67.) Pourquoi appelez-vous? Put yourself in the roleplay, think...why am I calling? For a job? For information ? For a booking? Try to think of an example where you are phoning for information about a job in a hotel... GIVING A REASON FOR YOUR CALL TIP – Remember their are lots of words for jobs – emplois, travails, postes. Bonjour je voudrais des renseignements sur les jobs à lhôtel.

71 68.) Uniforme / vêtements? ASKING WHAT CLOTHES YOU HAVE TO WEAR TIP – The examiner will want to here a whole sentence with either je dois.... or il faut.for the uniform. Est-ce que je dois porter un uniforme? Est-ce quil faut porter un uniforme? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. This type of question is usually put in where there is a phone call to a work placement / job or arranging to go out somewhere. 1 st try to ask if you must wear a uniform Now try to ask what clothes you should wear for a night out Quest-ce que je devrais porter?

72 69.) Salaire / Argent? Asking how much the salary is. Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. This type of question is usually put in where there is a phone call to a work placement / job. Cest combien le salaire? Je vais gagner combien?

73 70.)Description du professeur / voleur Describing a person TIP – Think carefully about what is needed here. For a description of a family member / teacher it is more likely you will describe their character; however for a thief or criminal, the description you give should be physical. Describing a person is quite a common task in the higher roleplays. You will need to give detailed information. It is usually a member of your family, a teacher or someone involved in a crime. First have a go at describing a teacher…. Ma professeur sappelle Madame Joynson. Elle est aimable et très sympa et aussi elle est un peu folle. Now try to describe a robber / criminal. Le voleur a les cheveux noirs et courts, les yeux marron et il a une barbe. Il est grand et mince.

74 71.) Les horaires du travail / du collège? Asking what the work / school hours are TIP – You made want to add the word normalment or dhabitude. Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. The word horario means the hours. There are two ways of tackling this question (using the verbs to start and finish, or just asking what the hours of work are. À quelle commence et finit le travail / le collège? Quelles sont les heures du travail / du collè

75 72.) Le petit-déjeuner / le déjeuner / le dîner - où? Asking where you are going to eat (breakfast, lunch and tea) TIP – You can use this type of sentence to ask where you are going to stay / buy things… Où est-ce quon va rester? Où est-ce quon va acheter….? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. Also, youll need to use future tense so that it is clear you are talking about eating later. Où est-ce quon va pour manger le petit-déjeuner? Où est-ce quon va pour manger le déjeuner? Où est-ce quon va pour manger le dîner?

76 73.) Reservation - détails Giving details on a booking to theatre / concert TIP – The box on your roleplay should give you information on which concert / theatre production it is. For this type of reservation you will need to say your name, the concert/production you have booked and the time you have booked it for.. Bonjour, je mappelle Tom Smith et jai réservé deux billets pour Romeo et Juliette à huit heures et demie. Bonjour je mappelle Luke Jones et jai réservé trois billets pour le concert de Westlife à neuf heures.

77 74.) Supplément? Asking if there is a surcharge TIP – The 1 st option will score more highly but if you are in doubt, then you could just use il y a Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask a question. Here you will just need to ask if you have to pay an extra charge for cancelling / changing a booking. Est-ce que je dois payer un supplément? Il y a un supplément?

78 75.) Détails personnels Giving your personal details TIP – French telephone numbers are usually eight numbers long and you would say the numbers in 2s (vingt, quarante-cinq, soixante-sept, quatre-vingts-neuf. When you see this in an exam, you need to focus on the situation of the roleplay. You have to give at least 3 pieces of information: your name, your telephone number and age. Basically, the rule is that anything that is relevant can be used. Je mappelle Ben Williams et mon numéro de téléphone est Jai quinze. Other information might include your nationality, the languages you speak and your date of birth. Je suis anglais / britannique. Je parle anglais et français. Ma date de naissance est le vingt-trois décembre.

79 76.) Problème (voitures) Saying you have a problem with the car. TIP – To further impress the examiner, you could add phrases like jai besoin daide or introduce yourself as a tourist…je suis en vacances ici When you see this in an exam, you should give at least 1 problem with your vehicle. Give your name first and say you have a problem with your car… le parebrise est cassé Les freins ne marchent pas jai un pneu crevé Broken windscreen No brakes Puncture Bonjour je mappelle John Taylor, jai un probléme avec ma voiture…

80 77.) Où -détails Saying where you are When you see this in an exam, you should say where you are so the garage can locate you. There are two main ways to do this – the easiest way to do this is by saying where you are and what you are near. Je suis dans le centre de la ville....près de léglise Je suis au banlieue de la ville – près du supermarché

81 78.) Je dois attendre longtemps? Asking if you will have to wait a long time TIP – Dont panic in the exam – Think about what the question is asking you and then if you dont know the exact phrase, think of another way to say it. Je dois attendre longtemps? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. Here you will need to use tener que – to have to. Always be prepared to ask the question in another way – this helps if you dont know the exact vocabulary. How about asking when the mechanic will arrive. À quelle heure vous allez arriver?

82 79.) Problème – détails Returning goods to shops - stationery TIP – In the higher roleplays, remember to pick an item that you can both describe and give a problem for. Dont say you bought a pencil, shirt... if you cant continue the roleplay. Here you will probably have to say that you have a problem with an item you bought. You must use past tense to do this ( i bought...). Also look at the information on the roleplay card, does it say which shop you are in. You will not get any marks if you complain about clothes in a stationery shop. For this practice, imagine you are in a stationary shop. Bonjour, hier jai acheté un livre ici, mais il y a un problème ils manquent des pages (theres pages missing)....ce nest pas le bon livre (Its not the right book)...il y a une tache (Theres a mark)

83 80.) Problème – détails Returning goods to shops - clothes TIP – In the higher roleplays, remember to pick an item that you can both describe and give a problem for. Dont say you bought a pencil, shirt... if you cant continue the roleplay. Here you will probably have to say that you have a problem with an item you bought. You must use past tense to do this ( i bought...). Also look at the information on the roleplay card, does it say which shop you are in? You will not get any marks if you complain about clothes in a stationery shop. For this practice, imagine you are in a clothes shop. Bonjour, hier jai acheté un livre ici, mais il y a un problème elles ne me vont pas bien (they dont fit well)...il y a une tache (theres a mark)...je naime pas la couleur

84 81.) Les achats - quand Saying when you bought things TIP – You could also use a pronoun instead of repeating what you bought.... Je lai acheté hier – I bought it yesterday Je les ai achetés – I bought them yesterday Here you need to say when you bought the item. Remember to use past tense again. Jai acheté les chaussures hier Jai acheté la veste la semaine dernière

85 82.) Solution? Asking if a solution is possible Learning words like remboursé (refund), caisse (cash desk) and toilettes (toilets) is very important because there is no other way of conveying these ideas. Here you need to say what you want. Its important you learn 1-2 phrases for doing this as these types of roleplay are very common. Ask to change it or for a refund Cest possible de faire une échange? Je voudrais être remboursé - Exchange Refund

86 83. Pourquoi avez-vous téléphoné Saying why you are phoning (report a crime) Tip – It is very likely you are going to be asked for personal information in a reporting a crime roleplay. Dont use the phone number of the police station (which you may find on the roleplay card), make sure you know your own. Here you need to phone a police station and say you want to report a crime. If you look on the roleplay card, it is quite likely you will find the word for robbery. Je voudrais signaler un crime Now have another go at describing a robber. Remember, the Police would want a physical description. Le voleur avait les cheveux blonds, les yeux bleus et il avait une barbe, il portait des lunettes.

87 84. Aller au commisariat / chez le médecin? Ask whether you need to go to the police station / doctor Tip – Il faut... / Cest possible are good phrases to remember as they will be useful in a number of situations. Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. Here you need to ask whether you need to go to one of these places. You can use either Je dois... or Il faut Est-ce que je dois aller au commisariat? Il faut aller chez le médecin?

88 85. Chambre - problème Say there is a problem with your hotel room. Tip – There are many roleplays which involve problems...Be sure you learn to say you have problems with all possibilities (hotel rooms, cars, tickets, clothes and food) Here you need togive information about a problem in a hotel room. Be careful to choose something that you can think of a solution for. Give at least one thing that is wrong. Il y a un problème avec ma chambre.... cest sale il y a des insectes dans la salle de bain la lumière ne marche pas

89 86. Action? Ask what can be done (about a problem in a hotel room) Tip – BOTH of these answers would be acceptable. The first is maybe more simple but suggesting a solution is a suitable alternative. Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. You do not have to suggest a solution but you must ask them what they can do to resolve the problem. Try first of all to just ask them what they are going to do. Quest-ce que vous allez faire? Now use Cest possible...? / Est-ce quon peut...? to suggest a solution ¿Cest possble de changer de chambre?.... Est-ce quon peut nettoyer la chambre?

90 87. Visite à la fête foraine? Suggest visiting somewhere (a fair / a town) Tip – You could use use Allons.? – Shall we go? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. You need to suggest visiting place. Usually it will be the place advertised on the speaking card. Est-ce quon va visiter la fête foraine à Nantes?

91 88. Jétais... Saying what you were doing at the time of accident / crime Tip – Listen carefully for the étais bit. Here you need to explain what you were doing when something happened. These types of questions usually happen if you are reporting a crime, an accident or a personal injury. For the first example, imagine you have injured yourself and say what you were doing. Now try to say what you were doing when a road accident happened.... Je jouais au foot / basket... je dansais à la disco... Je traversais.... Jachetais quelque chose (crossing road) (buying something)

92 89. Ton logement en France Saying how you arrived somewhere Tip – Remember the word logement (accommodation) It appears a lot in exams. Here you need to say where you are staying. Try to give 2 pieces of information at least. First say where you are staying... Je reste..... à la maison dans un hôtel sur un camping Now try to add some information.. Where it is...? SIze...? Name..? de mes grandparents Ritz dans le centre près de la ville

93 90. Comment tu es arrivé à lhôtel Saying how you arrived Tip – remember its je suis arrivé and not jai arrivé Here you need to say how you arrived somewhere. Use the past tense of arriver I arrived and then add a mode of transport. Je suis arrivé..... en train en voiture

94 91. Tes qualités personnels Saying what personal attributes you have to be good for a job Tip – Anything that is relevant to giving you a job is acceptable here. Try to impress the examiners by using at least one thing without je suis.... Here you need to give your personal qualities Think of 2-3 describing words and then maybe another good sentence to get you a job. Je suis..... travailleur sociable sympa animé dynamique Now try to add another sentence – You never arrive late / Languages you speak.... Je narrive jamais en retard... 95 92. Quand tu peux travailler Saying when you will be available Tip – You could also used je peux travailler – I can work... Here you need to say when you will be available. You should try to use future tense when you see this. You could give an exact date, or say something like next week, tomorrow. Je serai libre..... Le trente juillet..... demain.... dans une semaine

96 93. La météo? Asking what the weather is going to be like Tip – You could also use the present tense as long as you specify a time in the future. ¿Quel temps fait-il demain? Quel temps fera-t-il cet après-midi? Note that there is a question mark so you have to ask the question. Here you need to use future tense.

97 94. Où préfères-tu aller et pourquoi? Saying where you want to go and why Here you need to give a place and say why you want to go there. First of all say where you want to go....
