2 2 Les questions essentielles:  What is « l’ imperatif »?  How is it formed?

3 2 L’impératif 1.You use the imperative to give commands and make suggestions. The forms are usually the same as the tu, vous, and nous forms. Note that the nous form means “Let’s...” PARLER FINIR ATTENDRE Parle à ton prof! Parlez à votre prof! Parlons à notre prof! Finis tes devoirs! Finissez vos devoirs! Finissons nos devoirs! Attends ton ami. Attendez votre ami. Attendons notre ami.

4 2 L’impératif 2. Note that with -er verbs, you drop the final s of the tu form. The same is true for aller and verbs like ouvrir. Regarde! Va voir le médecin! Ouvre la bouche!

5 2 L’impératif 3. In negative commands, you put the ne… pas or any other negative expression around the verb. Ne respirez plus! Ne dis rien.

6 2 L’imperatif en bref:  3 forms (tu, nous, vous)  Use verb without the subject  The « tu » form of –er verbs loses the final « s »
