 What does CONJUGATE mean?  Conjugate means to change the verb in order to make meaning.  Do we do this in English? Yes.  One conjugates the present tense of the verb “to be” as “I am, you are, he is, we are, you are, they are.”.

 1. Write the noun or subject pronoun (je, tu, il, elle, on, nous, vous, ils, or elles).  2. take the ER off the verb. (the infinitive)  3. add the correct endings that go with each subject pronoun. (endings: E, ES, E, ONS, EZ, ENT)

 Examples:  Elle aime lire. She likes to read.  Je n’aime pas travailler.I don’t like to work.  Nous aimons nager.We like to swim.

 J’aimenous aimons  Tu aimesvous aimez  Il/elle aime ils/elles aiment  J’aime manger  Je n’aime pas manger

 nous mangeons, nous voyageons, nous nageons  Add an e after the g in the nous form  J’aime, j’adore, j’habite  Je becomes J’ when it goes before a vowel or H

 Put Ne…pas around the verb- think of them as earmuffs.  Ne become N’ before a vowel or H  Tu ne danses pas beaucoup.  Je ne joue pas au foot.  Je n’aime pas nager.
