Le futur… e.g. I am going to go shopping. He is going to play football. We are going to watch T.V. Remember: To achieve a Level 5, you need to be able to talk about the present and the past OR the future. To achieve a Level 6, you need to be able to talk about the present, the past AND the future. This is also one of the criteria for getting an A*-C grade at GCSE.

Pick out the following phrases in the text and write the French and English in your book: 1) Im going to have breakfast 2) My dad is going to go to town 3) My mum is going to do the housework 4) We are going to play football. 5) My dad and my brother are going to go shopping. 6) I am going to go home 7) What are you going to do tomorrow?

The future tense uses the verb aller (to go). This is an irregular verb, so doesnt follow the rules and you have to learn it. Can you match the different parts of the verb together? Write the French and English in your book. I am going/I go You are going/You go (informal) He/She is going / He/She goes We are going/We go You are going/You go (polite/plural) They are going/They go vontallezva vais allons vas ============ Je Tu Il/Elle Nous Vous Ils/Elles vais vas va allons allez vont aller = to go

So, the future tense is rather easy… Just take the correct part of aller, depending on WHO is going to do the verb and add the INFINITIVE of the verb. The INFINITIVE is the part of the verb that comes straight from the dictionary and usually means to… In French, there are three possible endings… -er, -ir and -re e.g. jouer = to play sortir = to go out faire = to do

Try and write these sentences in the future tense in your book before clicking for the answers… 1)I am going to do shopping. 2)We are going to play basketball. 3)They are going to swim. 4)He is going to go to town. 5)You are going to listen to music (tu) 6)They are going to read a book. 7)I am going to go to bed. 8)You are going to go out with friends (vous) 9)Bradley is going to do diving. je vais faire du shopping nous allons jouer au basket ils vont nager / ils vont faire de la natation il va aller en ville tu vas écouter de la musique ils vont lire un livre je vais me coucher vous allez sortir avec des copains. Bradley va faire de la plongée
