Le passé composé I made or I did make We form this past tense in French by using: Avoir in the present tense + past participle Or Être in the present tense + past participle

Avoir + past participle J’ai Tu as Il, Elle a + past participle Nous avons er= é Vous avez ir = i Ils ont re = u Ex. J’ai fini mes devoirs Nous avons joué au foot. I finished my homework. We did play soccer.

Etre in the present tense + Past participle Je suis Tu es Il est past participle Nous sommes + re = u , ue, us, ues Vous êtes er = é , ée, és, ées Ils sont ir = i, ie, is, ies Ex. Je suis allé (e) Ils sont allés Elles sont allées *** Notice that participles agree in gender and plural when the helping verb être is used.
