Vocabulary Talking about yourself There are three ways of asking someone’s name in French and two ways of asking how old someone is. Use whichever you feel most comfortable with. At level 2 there is a progression onto talking about others. Tu t’apppelles comment? What are you called? Comment tu t’appelles? What are you called? Comment t’appelles-tu? What are you called? (this is generally used in written French) Il/elle s’appelle comment? What is he/she called? Je m’appelle... I am called... Il/Elle s’appelle…. He/She is called…. C’est qui? Who is it? Qui est-ce? Who is it? C’est... It is... Quel âge as-tu?/ Tu as quel âge? How old are you? J’ai ___ ans I am __ years old Où habites-tu? Where do you live? J’habite à Edimbourg I live in Edimbourg

Embedding the language You can use age to ask someone’s age whenever it’s their birthday. Use both age and where you live when you’re doing the register.

Regardez les images Levez la main Il s’appelle… Dites… ou.. Look at the images, put your hand up and say “His name is…” or “Her name is…” There are only a couple of examples on here. Game could be continued by pupils drawing a celebrity and pupils say “Il s’appelle” or “Elle s’appelle”. Elle s’appelle…

Je m’appelle.., J’ai..J’habite à… As you click on each slide pupils write the number. Pupils listen to the audio file and record the name of the person, their age and where they live. This can be played twice if the pupils need it. At end pupils can peer assess results by listening again. Pupils could then create their own recordings for other pupils to work out. A map is attached to next slide to help pupils with locations in France. This could be used to differentiate depending on the ability of the class.
