There are different verbs for talking about different meals in French. manger le petit déjeuner to eat breakfast manger to eat déjeuner to eat lunch manger/prendre le goûter to have tea / picnic / snack dîner to eat dinner The verb ‘prendre ’ is also used for ‘to have’ with either food or drink. This is information giving slide. It could be followed with a couple of active repetitions of ‘manger’ and ‘boire’. I would suggest having the class stand up and do the gestures. I put in a slide with the music for ease!

The music is just the verbs chanting backing track that we use. Student do the pronoun gestures the same with each verb but don’t say the pronouns, only the verb forms. Le dimanche nous mangeons chez mes grands parents. Nous mangeons normalement du pâté comme entrée, de la viande comme un rôti de porc et des légumes, puis après une tarte au citron ou une glace. En France nous dînons tard à 20h. Je mange normalement de la soupe et du pain. Je n’aime pas la soupe! Après je mange des fruits – les français mangent beaucoup de fruits. A lot of vocabulary is in their vocab books but you might want to make them work harder and look in dictionaries or set a limit for number of words they can look up? This is certainly a good text to use to help them identify and develop reading strategies with. E.g. You say ‘nous dînons ’ and count 1 – 2 – 3 and the whole class must respond ‘we have for dinner’ - also would work the other way round if the class is high ability. p
