Warm-up Get out a sheet of notebook paper. Write down these French sentences. Translate them to English. J’aime chanter. Je préfère jouer au football américain. Je ne veux pas étudier. Est-ce que tu veux dîner au restaurant avec moi? Share translations with partner. Do you agree? Any questions? In the French sentences, underline the subject once and the verb twice. What part of speech is the word chanter? Infinitive. What does that mean? It is not conjugated…doesn’t go with a subject. How do you know when a French verb is in the infinitive form? It ends in an –ER. What does an infinitive look like in English? To + verb. Give me an example of an infinitive that it not on this slide. Take three examples.
