The future tense En français
In French, you attach endings after the verb In English, it translates by adding “will” in front of the verb I will go out I will dance In French, you attach endings after the verb You use the infinitive of the verb - Manger ( to eat) - Finir ( to finish) - Entendre (to hear)
and Tu (you)…………………… ….as Il/elle (he/she)…… ….a Nous (we)……………… ….ons For each person Je (I)……………………… Tu (you)…………………… Il/elle (he/she)…… Nous (we)……………… Vous (you all)………… Ils/elles (they)…… ….add the ending (manger) …ai ….as ….a ….ons ...ez ….ont
Example “Manger” Je mangerai I will eat Tu mangeras you will eat Il/elle mangera he/she will eat Nous mangerons we will eat Vous mangerez you(all) will eat Ils/elles mangeront they will eat
To summarise The future tense is formed by taking the infinitive and adding the endings of the future tense Note: in RE verbs, the last E drops before adding the ending. One more thing!
Some irregular verbs Some verbs don’t use their infinitive form. They use a irregular stem. Just add the endings to it. Aller (to go): ir_ j’irai…. Etre (to be): ser_ je serai….. Avoir (to have) aur_ j’aurai….. Faire (to do) fer_ je ferai…. Venir (to come) viendr_ je viendrai…. Devoir (to have to) devr_ je devrai…. Pouvoir (to be able to) pourr_ je pourrai…. Vouloir ( to want) voudr_ je voudrai…..
