Les Pronoms: le, la, les, et l’ Tu connais Patrick? Oui, je le connais. Tu vois Alice souvent? Oui, je la vois souvent. Tu connais mes amis? Oui, je les connais. Les Pronoms Compléments: le, la, l’, et les *Direct object pronouns-they answer the questions who/what in relationship to the verb.

Forms-le, la, l’ et les can represent people and things: Masculine forms:le, l’ him/itplural: les them Feminine forms: la, l’ her/it plural: les them l’ is used in front of a vowel sound. Tu aimes le chocolat? Oui, je l’aime. Examples: Tu vois Sophie?Oui, je la vois. Yes, I see her. Tu vois l’affiche?Oui, je la vois. Yes, I see it.

Position: In general, a direct object pronoun in French comes before the verb that it is related to. Examples: With basic statements Tu connais Marc?Oui, je le connais. Non, je ne le connais pas. With affirmative commands-the direct object pronoun follows the verb and is separated with a hyphen. Tu aimes le CD?Achète-le.Buy it. Tu aimes les livres?Lis-les.Read them

With negetive commands: The direct object pronoun is back in the normal position in front of the verb that it is related to: Ne l’invite pas!Don’t invite him/her! Ne les achète pas! Don’t buy them! With infinitive constructions: The direct object pronoun comes before the infinitive Tu vas regarder le film ce soir?Oui, je vais le regarder. Yes, I am going to watch it. Est-ce que tu peux apporter les livres?Oui, je peux les apporter. Yes, I can bring them.

*Note: Verbs attendre, chercher, écouter, et regarder take direct objects in French and in English they take indirect objects: Nous attendons le bus We are waiting for the bus. Nous l’attendons. We are waiting for it. Pierre regarde les voitures. Pierre is looking at the cars. Pierre les regarde. Pierre is looking at them.

Répondez aux questions en utilisant les pronoms-objet direct: 1.Mes amis regardent les joueurs au match? Oui Oui, ils les regardent. 2.Les filles regardent souvent la télé? Oui Oui, elles la regardent souvent. 3.Est-ce qu’elle va vister le Louvre?Oui Oui, elle va le visiter. 4.Est-ce que ton copain va visiter la Tour Eiffel? Non Non, il ne va pas la vister.

Les compléments d’objet direct au passé composé: **In the passé composé, the direct object pronoun comes immediately before the verb avoir, not the past participle: As-tu invité Paul?Oui, je l’ai invité. *There is agreement on the past participle when the direct object is known and mentioned before the verb that is related to. Marc a vu ses sœurs?Oui, il les a vues. Claire a acheté trois livres. Elle les a achetés à Barnes et Noble.
