If you are sitting with us today it is because you have successfully gone through a selection process for a post at CERN so congratulations, we are pleased to have you all among us today. Today I am going to talk to you about the induction interview, the probation period and I will present you the HRAs. The HRA is responsible for all staff members’ and they will follow you throughout your career. They will ensure your smooth integration into the organization – they will follow your probation period and they are available at all times for any questions. Their role will be detailed in the 2nd part of the induction programme that will take place on . You may also have met Katherine Thomas-Chevreux – she is the coordinator of the Fellow Programme and can be reached if you have any question. Votre 1er jour de travail For most of you it is your first day at CERN, which means that you have had lots of formalities to complete today – lots of paperwork to complete and lots of information to gather to ensure that your integration for you and your family is as smooth as possible. Once all these formalities have been completed you will be able to concentrate on what you are really here for – which is to work ! And to make sure you start off on the right track you will meet with your supervisor for an induction interview. CERN Induction Programme – Kate Fox
L’entretien d’entrée en fonctions Titulaires Boursiers Obligatoire Fortement recommandé First of all, the induction interview is mandatory for all staff members and strongly recommended for all Fellows. What is it? Well, it is an interview that should take place within the first 6 weeks of your contract, and during which you and your supervisor will mutually agree and set up a series objectives which you are expected to achieve during the probation period. It is not simply a list of all the activities or responsibilities of your new role – it is a direct link between the work you are being requested to perform and the Organisation’s/Group’s priorities. Vos objectifs de travail et de formation Spécifique Mesurable Atteignable Réalisable Temps The purpose of the induction interview is to define your working and learning objectives. What does SMART mean? It means that your objectives should be: Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Timely SMART objectives focus on the outcomes rather than activities and allow you and your supervisor to measure your success. With clear work objectives in mind, you are in a better position to know what is expected of you and if necessary to review these objectives as work demands may evolve during the probation period. Période probatoire 11ème mois 5ème mois Titulaires 1 an de période probatoire Temps d’intégration 1ère année Si travail satisfaisant 2ème année Exception 3ème année All staff members are subject to a one year probation period. Staff members will be followed closely during their probation period and will have: a mid probation interview in the 5th month of the contract to see how everything is going and check the objectives set are realistic/readjust if necessary – also give you as a staff member the opportunity to mention anything which is going particularly well or not so well. you will have your final probation interview towards the end of the 11th month. The purpose of the probation year is also to put in place any training requirements such as languages or more technical courses to make sure that you have all the tools you need to do your job well and integrate into the working environment. Fellows : you normally have a one-year contract and subject to satisfactory performance, an extension for a second year will be awarded Exceptionnally you can have a 3rd year (depending on activity, budget,etc.) Boursiers CERN Induction Programme – Kate Fox
