Que disent les phrases suivantes?  Il faut que tu parles français en classe.  Il faut qu’elle arrose les fleurs.  Il faut que vous finissiez les devoirs.  Il faut que tu dises la vérité.

 The previous sentences express a NECESSITY or OBLIGATION.  This is called the SUBJUNCTIVE mood. It is used after certain verbs and expressions.  The subjunctive is almost always introduced by que

To conjugate the subjunctive for most regular and irregular verbs …  Take the “ils” form of the present indicative tense and drop the -ent.  Add the appropriate endings, as follows: eions esiez eent

 For regular –er verbs, je, tu, il/elle, and ils/elles look the same in the present tense and subjunctive.  Pour maintenant, on va dire qu’on utilise le subjonctif après l’expression “il faut que” (Il y a d’autres expressions pour le subjonctif.) Tournez à la page 79 et complétez l’exercice 1.
