Irregular Adjectives Not all adjectives are made the same

We know that there are adjectives that come before They are: Autre Joli Petit Beau Large Premier Bon Long Seul Grand Mauvais Vieux Gros Meme Jeune Nouveau

We know All other adjectives come after. When an adjective describes a «la » word, it has an -e on the end. When an adjective describes a « le » word, it has nothing on the end. When an adjective describes more than one le word, it has an « s » at the end. When an adjective describes more than one la word, it has an « es » at the end.

However, there are some adjectives that do not follow this pattern.

These are the adjectives that do not just add -e For le words: For la words: For les(la): For les (le): beau belle belles beaux bon bonne bonnes bons fier fière fières fiers heureux heureuse heureuses heureux intellectuel intellectuelle intellectuelles intellectuels long longue longues longs naif naive naifs naives blanc blanche blanches blancs

Other Irregular Adjectives: le: la: les (le): les (la): vieux vieille vieux vieilles premier première premiers premières long longue longs longues nouveau nouvelle nouveaux nouvelles

` When trying to figure out how to make an adjective work with a noun: Step 1: decide if the adjective comes before or after le père; laid laid doesn’t come before, so its after. Step 2: Decide if the word it’s modifying is a le or la word. le père is a « le » word. Step 3: Determine if it is a regular or irregular adjective, then put the appropriate ending on it. laid was not on our irregulars sheet, so it must be the same. Le père laid.

What if it was «vieux? » La mère: vieux. Step one: Does it come before or after? Before. So, le vieux mère. (so far). Step two: is the noun « le » or « la ? » la mère - la Step three: is it an irregular adjective? Vieux was on our list of irregulars. the « la » form of vieux is vieille so, its going to be « la vieille mère. »
