 Soccer is the most popular and widely- played sport in the entire world.  It is a team sport consisting of 11 players on the field at a time.  The goal of the sport is to kick, head, or otherwise put the ball into the opposing team’s goal for one point each time. LE FOOT

 Players can use any part of their body in the sport except their hands (goalkeepers may use their hands).  Fouls (handball, tripping, tackling, etc) earn penalties, and can be either yellow cards or red cards.  Two yellow cards in the same match result in a red card, and the player is ejected from the game.  Minor games can end in a tie score, but major qualifying matches will often go to a shoot-out, in which players from both teams attempt to score a goal without any defenders. DES RÈGLES

 Soccer was first introduced to France in 1863 by British immigrants, and modern football was introduced 9 years later in 1872 by English sailors playing in La Havre, France.  Football in France is governed by the Ligue de Football Professionel.  Levels include Championnat National, Championnat de France amateur, Championnat de France amateur 2, Amateur football, Women’s football, and Overseas leagues.  There are also a whole host of Cup Competitions including La Coupe de France, La Coupe de la Ligue, La Trophée des champions, etc. DE L’HISTOIRE
