Les adjectifs le pluriel
Compare the singular and plural adjectives. Masculine Singular Paul est intelligent et timide. Masculine Plural Paul et Marc sont intelligents et timides.
Compare the singular and plural adjectives. Feminine Singular Alice est intelligente et timide. Feminine Plural Alice et Claire sont intelligentes et timides.
In written French, plural adjectives are usually formed as follows: SINGULAR ADJ. + -s = PLURAL ADJ.
EXCEPTION If the masculine singular adjective already ends in –s, there is no change in the masculine plural form. Example: Patrick est français. Patrick et Jean sont français.
Feminine does change. Example: Anne est française. Anne et Alice sont françaises.
Note de prononciation Because the final –s of plural adjectives is silent, singular and plural adjectives sound the same.
