This tense is composed of 2 words: A helping verb (avoir or être) + a past participle = passé composé Note that most verbs use “Avoir” to form their passé composé To form the passé compose of most verbs: Use the appropriate present tense of Avoir or être + past participle of the main verb.

Verbs that use Avoir to form their Passé Composé Exemple: Most of –er verbs EXCEPT ALLER Finir, choisir Faire Prendre voir

To form the past participle (p.p.) of –er verbs. Drop the –er of the infinitive and add é. Exemple: Manger Present : Aujourd’hui, je mange une pomme. Passé compose: Hier, j’ai mangé une pomme. Avoir Past participle
