11 Region du Lac Tchad TCHAD April 2 update : 94,283 IDPs (of which 49,209 have been registered), 10,223 Chadian returnees and 605 third-country nationals. In addition, UNHCR reports over 6,000 refugees from Nigeria in Chad. UNICEF and its partners are currently providing multiple assistance in 32 IDP sites (out of 40 IDPs sites in total) and 70 host villages of the Lake region. The nutritional situation is particularly difficult in IDP sites around Liwa and Daboua: Screening by WFP in these sites has shown that 5.8% of the 7,541 under-five children screened have Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), with total GAM proportion of 18.9%. UNICEF has provided the Liwa health District with tents and supplies to open an In-patient nutritional unit. SAM treatment: In the Lake Region, UNICEF and its partners have registered 1,292 new cases of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in February 2016 of which 66 with medical complications. Since the beginning of 2016, UNICEF and its partners have registered 2,688 SAM cases. 790 children (90.5%) were treated in the Outpatient units with 90 % of children with SAM discharged recovered, a death rate of 0.5% and 7.4% as dropout rate.

12 Region du Lac Tchad NIGER As 20th of March (week 11), about 1,703 children under 5 five year suffering of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) are admitted in health facilities (OTP/IPF) including 293 with medical complications. This number represents 12% out of 14,338 children targeted for SAM treatment this year in Diffa. The programme recorded good performance indicators compared to Sphere standards with recovered rate of 88.7%, defaulted rate of 4% and died rate less than 1%. An analysis of SAM treatment programme data shows that 19% of children treated for SAM with medical complications were less 6 months old in Diffa region. That demonstrate big challenge of IYCF practices in this region.
