Demonstrative adjectives, like most adjectives, agree with the nouns
they describe in gender and number. singular plural masculine ce chapeau ces chapeaux this/that hat these/those hats feminine cette chemise ces chemises this/that shirt these/those shirts

If a masculine singular noun that begins with a vowel or a silent h is accompanied by a demonstrative adjective use cet instead of ce. cet anorak this/that parka cet homme this/that man

Est-ce que tu préfères cette robe-ci ou cette robe-là?
To distinguish between this/that and these/those, French uses the suffixes –ci and –là. Est-ce que tu préfères cette robe-ci ou cette robe-là? Do you prefer this dress or that dress? These suffixes are based on the words ici (here) and là (there).
