2 Before Class: Have students make desk-top name tags with their first name on one side (or the name that theyd like to be called in class), and their first and last name on the other. Be sure that you have made one in advance as a model. I. Je me présente Greetings, tu/vous Greet Ss in French: Salut! Write your first name on the board: Moi, je m'appelle X (to model their response) OR use your desktop name tag with your first name on one side (and Monsieur X, Madame X, etc. on the other – point to the first name side. Then point to S: Et toi, comment tu t'appelles? Continue, modeling the response several times. Write your last name and appropriate title on the board (M., Mme, Mlle – to differentiate between the different titles, if Ss dont catch on, you could lower your voice for M.; show your ring finger and hum Here comes the bride for Mme), or use the Monsieur/Mme/Mlle side of your name tag. Act very formal as you model: Moi, je mappelle Mlle X. Greet several students formally: Et vous, comment vous appelez vous? Get them to use an appropriate title and their last name, and respond to them with lesson vocab: Enchanté(e), mademoiselle! Have them identify the expressions that are formal and informal. Present the expressions and have them repeat. Ask students if there is a difference in the two greetings (be sure to use LOTS of cognates and things they have already heard: une différence entre Comment tu tappelles? et Comment vous appelez vous?, oui ou non?
