3 Le Passé Composé des verbes réguliers

4 helping verb + past participle = passé composé
The passé composé is used to tell what has happened in the past. It is composed of two parts: 1) helping verb – avoir 2) past participle of verb HV + PP = PC helping verb + past participle = passé composé

5 The past participle of regular –er verbs ends in é.
The past participle of regular –re verbs ends in u. The past participle of regular –ir verbs ends in i. J’ai parlé à Jacques. Tu as regardé le match de foot? Jean-Marc a perdu son devoir de maths. Nous avons vendu notre ordinateur. Vous avez fini vos devoirs? Elles ont maigri pendant l’été.

6 faire – fait prendre – pris
Many irregular verbs also have irregular past participles. faire – fait prendre – pris lire – lu voir – vu être – été avoir – eu pouvoir – pu vouloir - voulu François a fait ses devoirs. Nous avons lu un bon livre. Vous avez pris le petit déjeuner? Elles ont vu une bonne pièce samedi.

7 In the negative, the ne…pas goes around the first verb
only (the form of avoir). Je n’ai pas parlé à Jacques. Jean-Marc n’a pas fini ses devoirs. François n’a pas fait ses devoirs. Vous n’avez pas pris le petit déjeuner? Elles n’ont pas perdu leur match de foot.
