1 Unexpected question ! In the new GCSE role plays in both the Foundation and Higher papers there will be an ‘unexpected’ question shown by a ! on the role play card. You will need to: Learn to recognise the ‘key question words’ and ‘common ! ’ which are used by the exam board Use the preparation time to ‘ guess’ what the question could be Develop the skill of using the question to help you form your own answer Actively engage in all role play practice from the start of year 10

2 Tip 1: Try and ‘anticipate’ and ‘guess’ what the question could be

5 Tip 4: Make sure you answer in the correct tense

This is the most common ! on the Higher Role Play(specimen papers) You need to answer simply and accurately in the past tense (depending on the context) je suis allé(e) au cinema J’ai joué au football

What are you doing……..? If you hear ‘Qu’est-ce tu fais ……?’ in a ! question give a simple answer in the present tense (depending on context)- I am going to the cinema/ I am playing football je vais au cinema je joue au football

8 Qu’est-ce que tu vas faire…….?
What are you going to do….? If you hear ‘Qu’est-ce tu vas faire ……?’ in a ! question give a simple answer in the future tense (depending on context)- I am going to play football/ I am going to watch a film) je vais jouer au football je vais regarder un film

9 Pourquoi voulez-vous travailler en France?
Why do you want to work in France? If you hear this ‘Pourquoi..?’ in a ! question then you need to give a simple reason. J’adore la France J’adore parler le français

10 Vous prenez le menu à quel prix? Quel est le prix des billets?
Which price menu are you taking? What price are the tickets? If you hear ‘le prix’ in a ! question then you need to give a simple price Je prends le menu à neuf Euros (oo-row) Les billets sont huit Euros (oo-row)
