Moi, je ne reçois rien. Ce n’est pas juste! Le pauvre! Ses parents ne lui donnent rien. Mon père me donne 5€ par semaine. Je reçois 25€ par mois de ma mère. This dialogue provides the key phrases for talking about pocket money. This is a good opportunity to practise indirect object pronouns.

L’argent 5 The ‘Euro zone’ The ‘Euro zone’
The 12 countries of the ‘Euro zone’ are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. The euro is also being used in Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, the Vatican, and French overseas territories including Martinique, Guadeloupe and Reunion. There is a quiz at the end of this series of informative slides on the euro so pupils may wish to take notes. Denmark, Sweden and the UK are the only countries in the EU that have not yet adopted the euro. However, they have not ruled out joining in the future.

L’argent 6 L’euro, c’est plus facile ensemble. The euro in France
The campaign motto The French government launched a huge publicity campaign for the euro in January 2001. Lise, a 13 year old teenager was the face of the campaign. Adverts appeared on the television, the radio and in the press. There was also a free telephone helpline and a website. On top of this, information was available in town halls and post offices. Social workers and volunteers were employed to help the elderly to get used to the idea of the euro. The euro was calculated to be equivalent to francs. In order to help the French population convert between francs and euros, the government produced a reference guide comparing prices in the two currencies. 30 million copies of this guide were distributed by post. L’argent 7 The look of the euro
The euro became a reality in January billion banknotes were printed in preparation for the changeover. By the 28th February 2002, most shops had stopped accepting any other currency. The front of the note shows windows and gateways, while the back features bridge designs. The euro notes come with a whole range of security features to prevent forgery including a hologram and a special security thread. More information about the government’s promotional campaign for the euro can be found at: The notes have the same design throughout the ‘Euro zone’. However, the coins have a European front and a 'national' back. Each country decided which national symbols it wanted to show on the back of its coins. France chose Marianne, an image that symbolizes the spirit of the French republic.

How would they feel when they found out? What would they do with the money and how would it change their lives? What problems do they foresee? Quels problèmes envisagez- vous?
