1 Perfect Tense Avoir Verbs

2 Auxiliary Verb As in English when you use to have e.g. I have sung. In French you will need to use an auxiliary verb (a help verb). This auxiliary verb can be avoir (to have) or être (to be). The auxiliary verb will always be in the present tense. Therefore you must learn these two verbs and especially learn how they are spelt and what they sound like.

4 Past participle of regular verbs
In English you also have a past participle i.e. as its name indicates the past participle is part of the verb i.e. it represents a particular form of the verb e.g. I have sung: sung is the past participle form of the verb to sing in English.

5 (i) er Verbs: chanter (and many others)
To obtain the past participle form of an er verb you must:- take away r  chante place an acute accent over the e  chanté So the past participle form of any regular er verb is easily recognisable: é e.g. parlé e.g. mangé
