2 Purpose of Reforms Design a constitution reflecting current student body values Build a more democratic process Build an inclusive school reflective of UO mandate Design positions that provide a better division of labour Design more coherent position descriptions

4 Major Reforms The preamble: Whereas the AÉÉCLSS is founded upon principles that recognize equity, accessibility, diversity and promoting an inclusive law school environment for all members of the AÉÉCLSS. This is important, much like the Canadian constitution we expect this to be a Living Tree Document. In years to come the executive will determine how to interpret this constitution in a manner congruent with the preamble

8 Major Reforms Continued Position reform (we will go in detail with this below) Language Requirements: VP Internal, External and French must be fluently bilingual in English and French. Each person must have ability to translate documents and write and speak in French and English. President must have a working knowledge of French and English. They must be able to communicate in both official languages, however, all communications are reviewed and edited by those meeting the requirements of positions above.

16 VP Finance Old Constitution: 1. receive all accounts due to the C. L. S. S.; 2. subject to sections 75 and 76, pay all debts of the C.L.S.S.; 3. maintain accurate accounts of the C.L.S.S.'s books; 4. prepare, for the Executive Council, the figures necessary to elaborate a preliminary budget; 5. publish, at least once before the end of his or her term in office, a financial statement; 6. chair the budget meeting at the general assembly in both languages of the C.L.S.S.; 7. sit as a member of the Extracurricular Council and as an ex-officio member, without voting privileges, of the Academic Council. New Constitution: a. Be a signing officer of the Society; b. Together with the President, assume responsibility for ensuring that all contracts entered into by the Society are with due authority and in the best interests of the Society; c. Develop, recommend and present the annual budget at the Annual Budget Meeting in consultation with the Executive Committee; d. Monitor the financial status of the Society including budget variances, and make recommendations to the Society regarding major expenditures; e. Together with the Vice President, Academic, process and keep accurate account of all club funding requests received and granted by the Society; f. Take responsibility for all record keeping and book keeping necessary for AÉÉCLSS finances; g. Oversee, with the President, the operations of the AÉÉCLSS Bookstore management. h. Create transition documents for the incoming Vice President, Finance, and train and advise them.

Nouvelle constitution: a. Être un signataire autorisé de lAssociation; b. Collaborer avec le Président pour assumer la responsabilité de veiller à ce que tous les contrats conclus par lAssociation soient dûment autorisés et dans les meilleurs intérêts de lAssociation; c. Élaborer, recommander et présenter le budget annuel à l'Assemblée budgétaire annuelle en consultation avec le Comité Exécutif; d. Surveiller la situation financière de lAssociation, y compris les écarts budgétaires, et faire des recommandations à lAssociation en ce qui concerne les dépenses importantes; e. En collaboration avec le Vice Président aux affaires académiques, tenir une comptabilité précise de toutes les demandes de financement des clubs reçues et approuvées par lAssociation; f. Être responsable pour la tenue de tous les dossiers et de la comptabilité nécessaires pour les finances de lAÉÉCLSS; g. Superviser, avec le Président, la gestion de la librairie de lAÉÉCLSS. h. Créer les documents de transition pour le nouveau vice président aux finances élu, le former et le conseiller.
