2 When do you use the perfect tense with être?  The perfect tense with être is also used to describe an action in the past which is no longer happening.  Eg: Je suis allé en France. I went to France.

3 What is the main difference between the perfect tense with avoir and the perfect tense with être?  The perfect tense with être is used to describe a movement or a change of state:  Eg: I went to the supermarket. Je suis allé au supermarché. (movement) My brother was born in 1996. Mon frère est né en 1996. (change of state)
