Now I will give you some information about Swiss and French official documents Given the fact that CERN is situated on 2 countries: Switzerland and France Each member of personnel has the obligation to hold two types of official documents : a SWISS CARD and a FRENCH CARD I am going to explain to you what these documents are and why you need to have them. 2 Carte suisse DFAE (Département Fédéral des Affaires Etrangères)
Validité : 5 ans Catégories : Nationalité (suisse ou non) Type de contrat + Position salariale I will start with the SWISS CARD The Swiss card is delivered by the Federal department of foreign affairs in Bern and has a validity of 5 years The type of card delivered by the Swiss authorities depends on : Your nationality (ex : if you are a Swiss national you will obtain a different card than a non-Swiss national) Your contract and your salary band The different types of card give you different privileges.

Permis de travail Permis de séjour SEUL document officiel – fonctionnaire international Famille (conjoint + enfants) : Accès au marché du travail en Suisse: PERMIS Ci What are the functions of the Swiss card? For members of personnel It’s your work permit for the Swiss part of CERN It’s your residence permit if you choose to live in Switzerland it’s the only official document issued by the Swiss authorities stating that you are an international civil servant For your family now : If you have a family and you are going to live in Switzerland, your family must have a Swiss card as well. It will be a residence permit for them. If your spouse or children want to work in Switzerland, they have the possibility to change the Swiss card for a work permit called a CI permit. The only condition is to live in Switzerland.

4 Carte française MAE (Ministère des Affaires Étrangères)
Validité: 3 ans Catégories: Nationalité (française ou non) Type de contrat + Position salariale Pays de résidence (France ou Suisse) What about the French card : The French card is delivered by the Ministry of foreign affairs in Paris and the validity is 3 years The type of French card delivered depends on : Your nationality Your type of contract, the salary band and the country where you live (If you live in Switzerland or if you live in France, you will receive a different type of French card) For that reason, we ask you to wait until you have a permanent address before you apply for the French card.

Permis de travail Permis de séjour SEUL document officiel – fonctionnaire international Famille (conjoint + enfants) : The French card has the following functions: For members of personnel - It’s your work permit for the French part of CERN It’s your residence permit it’s the only official document issued by the French authorities stating that you are an international civil servant, Now, what about your family : If your family members are not nationals of a european country, they must have a French card as well. It will be their residence permit. If the family members are nationals of a european country, it is not an obligation to have a French card, but it is recommended, especially if you are entitled to green plates.
