1. What to do when I get my essay title? Identify what topic (ex: Media) and sub- topic (ex: TV) it relates to. If the title is not already a question, turn it into one. Find 3 big points to answer your question.

2. Should I write a draft before writing my essay? Write down everything you know about your 3 big points. Rearrange your thoughts in “sub-points”. Order your arguments: use the most powerful/important argument/opinion as the last one.

3. How do I write an introduction? Start your introduction with a statement, such as the one given in your essay title. Follow it up with the question you worked out. Remember never to start writing your essay in your introduction. You should not give any opinions in there either.

4. How do I write a conclusion? In your conclusion, summarise what you have been working on and what you have learnt from your study. Open the discussion on to something else. Remember never to introduce anything new (except an opening topic), such as a new opinion or way to deal with one of your points, in your conclusions.

5. How do I write my actual essay? You should SDOJ and exemplify absolutely everything so you make your ideas as clear as possible. Go back to your latest sentence and think “why do I say / think that” and then write it. Illustrate your arguments with a personal experience.
