Indirect object pronoun The indirect pronoun replaces a noun when the action is done to someone: This means that French verbs followed by à, will need an indirect object pronoun. You have to be careful however, as sometimes in English we can omit the word to, even though it is still an indirect object pronoun: I send him an (I send an to him) Je lui envoie un Il me donne le livre.He gives the book to me/ He gives me the book.
