Human Sentences! J’ adore les chats

Notes to teachers Print out slides 13 – 18 on card cut them into two and distribute them to children. This gives 12 different sentences. (Make more for one per child.) Slides 3-12: show the English, listen to the French, then reveal the written text. Get the children to repeat in French. Show slides 3-12 again. This time round show the English sentences, click and listen to the French and ask the children with that sentence to hold it up or stand up with it before you reveal the French Next time (Slides 13-22) blank the screen so that pupils don’t see the English but listen to the French and then hold up their sentence. Redistribute the cards to repeat the exercise.

Here are three cats. Voilà trois chats.

I hate the black cat but I love the red dog. Je déteste le chat noir mais j’adore le chien rouge.

It’s a brown and black cat. C’est un chat marron et noir.

I have a brown dog and I would like a green snake. J’ai un chien marron et je voudrais un serpent vert.

I am a tortoise and I am three. Je suis une tortue et j’ai trois ans.

I have three snakes and I love snakes. J’ai trois serpents et j’adore les serpents.

I am a grey dog and I am five. Je suis un chien gris et j’ai cinq ans.

Here is a cat. It’s brown. Voilà un chat. Il est marron.

I love snakes but I have a dog. J’adore les serpents mais j’ai un chien.

I would like a tortoise and I hate cats. Je voudrais une tortue et je déteste les chats.
