Transcription de la présentation:

Les pronoms compléments: le/la/les; lui/leur

You already know how to use direct object pronouns: Je mange le sandwich = Je le mange Il aime les films = Il les aime Vous lisez le livre = Vous le lisez The direct object answers the question, « what? » I eat what? I eat the sandwich (le). He likes what? He likes movies (les). You read what? You read the book (le).

Some verbs in French do not take a direct object- they take an indirect object. Indirect objects answer the question « to what? » or « to whom? » Je téléphone à ma mère. Il parle au prof. Tu prêtes le crayon à ton ami. These verbs are usually followed by the preposition à (sometimes seen as « au » or « aux »)

Objets indirect Je téléphone à ma mère. Il parle au prof. Tu prête le crayon à ton ami. To whom do I call? À ma mère To whom does he speak?Au prof To whom are you loaning the pencil? À ton ami

Les pronoms objets indirects To replace an indirect object with a pronoun, you cannot use « le », « la », or « les » as you did with direct objects. You must use « lui » or « leur ». Lui = masculine or feminine singular Leur = masculine or feminine plural

Lui Je téléphone à ma mère. Il parle au prof. Tu prêtes le crayon à ton ami. Je lui téléphone. (lui replaces ma mère) Il lui parle. (lui replaces prof) Tu lui prêtes le crayon.(lui replaces ton ami)

Leur Now lets try making those plural: Je téléphone aux mes parents. Il parle aux profs. Tu prêtes le crayon à tes amis.

Leur Je leur téléphone. (I telephone to them) Il leur parle.(He talks to them) Tu leur prêtes le crayon. (You loan the pencil to them)

Les verbes qui exige un objet indirect Here are some common verbs that take an indirect object. They are all actions that you do to something or someone. They are followed by a preposition (often à, au, or aux)

Les verbes qui exige un objet indirect Parler àTo talk to Montrer àTo show to Donner àTo give to Prêter àTo loan to Rendre àTo return to Téléphoner àTo call to Demander àTo ask of Écrire àTo write to

Les verbes qui exige un objet indirect Rendre visite àto pay a visit to Répondre à to respond to Dire à to say to Emprunter à to borrow from Acheter à to buy for

Une question… Est-ce quil est possible davoir un objet direct et un objet indirect dans la même phrase?

Oui!!! Par exemple: Je donne un cadeau a mon ami. I give what?Un cadeau (object direct) To whom?A mon ami (object indirect)

You could rewrite this as: Je le lui donne. (I give it to him)
