Le 23 mars de la même année, les Français et les Hollandais réglèrent le problème de leur «souveraineté nationale» par la signature du Traité du mont des Accords (Concordia). Ils se partagèrent lîle en deux parties: les Français occupèrent la partie nord (52km²), les Hollandais, la partie sud (34km²). Dans laccord de 1648, il était convenu dassurer la libre circulation des habitants sur toute lîle.
