Future Tense 1) Immediate Future = “going to” - Aller + Infinitive Je vais partir = I’m going to leave Il va voyager en France = He’s going to travel to France Vous allez faire du ski = you’re going to ski 2) Future = “will” –Infinitive + avoir endings Je partirai = I will leave Il voyagera en France = He will travel to France Vous ferez du ski = you will ski
Formation Take the infinitive of the verb you want Add the avoir, present tense, endings –Manger = je mangerai = I will eat –Sortir = nous sortirons = we will go out –Rendre = ils rendront* = they will turn in –S’amuser = tu t’amuseras = you’ll have fun *-re verbs drop the “e”
Irregular Stems Être - ser - je serai Avoir - aur - j’aurai Aller - ir - j’irai Faire - fer - ferai Pouvoir - pourr - je pourrai Vouloir - voudr - je voudrai Devoir - devr - je devrai Savoir - saur- je saurai Pleuvoir - pleuvr- il pleuvra Acheter/préférer -achèterai/préfèrerai*
Conditional “would” Use the future stems Add the imperfect endings –Manger = je mangerais = I would eat –Sortir = nous sortirions = I would go out –Rendre = ils rendraient* = they would turnin –S’amuser = tu t’amuserais = you would have fun
The irregular future stems are the same in the conditional Faire - je ferais = I would do Être - il serait = He would be Aller - nous irions = We would go Note: devoir, pouvoir and vouloir are almost always used in the conditional, for politeness –Je voudrais = I would like; Vous pourriez = You could –Il devrait = He should
