Révision des verbes

-ER verbs in the present tense Do you remember what a verb is? Yes it is a doing word. Do you remember what the infinitive of a verb is? It is the form of the verb which has no idea of time (past, present or future) and no idea of who does the action. How do we spot an infinitive in English? The verb is always with TO in front of it. Lets have some examples: to doto singto liketo love What about some examples of –ER verbs in French: aimeradorerdétesterjouer dessinerchanterpratiquercorriger

So in French how do we know that a verb is in the infinitive? It ends in –ER, -IR or –RE. We are here going to concentrate on –ER verbs. So in English, if we want to use a verb with a subject (something / somebody who is doing the action) what do we need to get rid of? We need to get rid of the TO. What do you think we are going to get rid of with an –ER verb? We are going to get rid of the –ER: aimeraim adorerador détesterdétest

Once we have got rid of the –ER, do we need to add something at the end of the verb? We need to add an ending which is going to match the person / object doing the action. Lets have a look at that: Je Tu Il Elle Nous Vous Ils Elles aim e es e e ons ez ent
