Les conséquences C’est une maladie grave et difficile à traiter, qui peut se terminer par la mort par dénutrition dans le cas graves. A’ force de ne rien manger, les mécanismes de faim et de satiété sont altérés; l’amaigrissement devient pathologique et s’accompagne de carences nutritionnelles.

Les traitements Dans certains cas graves il faut recourir à l’hopitalisation pour re-nutrition par gavage.L’isolement avec séparation du milieu familial est parfois nécessaire. Le traitement fait intervenir médecins, nutritionnistes et psychiatres. C’est un traitement au long cours qui repose sur un contrat de prise de poids régulière, contrat conclu avec le médecin dans lequel la jeune fille s’engage à se ré-alimenter progressivement, accompagné d’une psychothérapie individuelle ou familiale. Il peut etre très difficile de faire retrouver l’appétit à l’anorexique, et, dans seulement la moitié des cas d’anorexies graves, les contrats de poids réussissent. Les rechutes sont nombreuses et la maladie devient chronique.
