Notes le 28 octobre ÊTRE (to be) je suis (I am) nous sommes (we are) tu es (you are) vous êtes (you (plural) are) il/elle est (he/she is) ils/elles sont (they are)

Des exemples: Tu es française? - Non, je suis américaine. Martin est de la France ? - Oui, il est de Toulouse. Anne et Marie sont sympas ? - Oui, elles sont très sympas. Vous êtes d’accord ? - Non, nous ne sommes pas d’accord.

TU vs. VOUS In addition to being the plural form of you, VOUS is also used to address individual adults with whom you have a formal relationship. Generally speaking, if you directly address an adult who is not a friend or a family member, you will use VOUS. Use TU when talking to a family member, an adult friend, a classmate and with all children and adolescents.

Des exemples: A 15 year-old talking to his friend, Raphaël: Tu n’es pas sympa! The same 15 year-old talking to his teacher: Vous êtes très intelligent, monsieur!
