Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns Francais II

Direct Objects A direct object is the person or thing receiving the action of the verb. They’re eating the cake. Ils mangent le gâteau. I’m watching the parade. Je regarde le défilé. Direct objects can be nouns OR pronouns. To avoid repetition, direct objects can be replaced with direct object pronouns.

Direct object pronouns In French the following are direct object pronouns. Me (m’) …………. me Te (t’) …………... you (singular and informal) Le(l’) .………….... Him / it La (l’) ……..………Her /it Nous …………..... us Vous …………….. You (formal and plural) Les ………………. Them(masculine or fem.)

Direct object pronouns In English direct and indirect objects pronouns usually go after the verb. Alice sees us. We like them. She’s going to watch it. In French object pronouns are usually placed before the verb. Alice nous regarde. Nous les aimons. IF there is an infinitive in the sentence place the direct object pronoun before the infinitive. Elle va le regarder.

Direct Object Pronouns EXAMPLES. Ils mangent le gâteau? Oui ils le mangent. Tu vas regarder le défilé? Oui je vais le regarder. Je vous invite tous chez moi. I’m inviting you all to my house. She’s inviting me to the party. Elle m’invite à la fête. NOTE: Me, te, le and la change to m’, t’ ,l’ and l’ before a verb that starts with a vowel

DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS Write the following into French. Remember that each sentence needs a direct object pronoun. I’m buying it (a card). She’s inviting them to my party. He likes her. I love you (informal). We like to watch you (formal).

DIRECT OJBECT PRONOUNS Answer the following questions using a direct object pronoun and the information in parentheses. Où est-ce que tu mets le sapin de Noël? (dans le salon) Quand est-ce qu’on allume les bougies? (ce soir) Quand est-ce que tu vas envoyer les cartes de voeux? (demain)

Indirect Objects An indirect object is the person who benefits from the action of the verb. In French the indirect object is almost always preceded by à and is often used with verbs of giving, receiving and communication Donner, offrir, envoyer Parler , téléphoner, dire Example: Je vais envoyer une carte à mon cousin.

Indirect Object Pronouns Just like direct objects, indirect objects can be replaced with indirect object pronouns to avoid repetition. Indirect object pronouns Me (m’) ……………… (to) me Te (t’) ………………... (to) you Lui …………………… (to) him / her Nous ………………… (to) us Vous ………………… (to) you Leur ………………… (to) them

Indirect Object Pronoun Examples J’envoie une invitation à nous à ma fête. Je nous envoie une invitation à ma fête. Tu pourrais offrir à son ami un CD. Tu pourrais lui offrir un CD. Nous parlons à Marc et Michelle maintenant. Nous leur parlons maintenant. Ils donnent un cadeau à moi. Ils me donnent un cadeau.

CLASS WORK Write what the indirect object is in each sentence. Then rewrite the sentence replacing the indirect object with an indirect object pronoun. Vous téléphonez à ses amis souvent. Tu aimes envoyer les cartes à ton père. Je vais donner un chèque-cadeau à Marie. Nous envoyons une invitation à toi aujourd’hui. Ils parlent à vous.

CLASS WORK REWRITE the sentence using an INDIRECT object pronoun. Je téléphone à Marc et Michelle Tu aimes donner les fleurs à moi. Elle envoie les cartes à nous. Nous aimons parler à Marc.
