WE WILL TAKE YOU IN A JOURNEY WITH US IRELAND WE WILL TAKE YOU IN A JOURNEY WITH US

Irish History Historians estimate that Ireland was first settled by humans at a relatively late stage in European terms – about 10,000 years ago. Around 4000 BC it is estimated that the first farmers arrived in Ireland. Farming marked the arrival of the new Stone Age. Around 300BC, Iron Age warriors known as the Celts came to Ireland from mainland Europe. The Celts had a huge influence on Ireland. Many famous Irish myths stem from stories about Celtic warriors. The current first official language of the Republic of Ireland, Irish (or Gaeilge) stems from Celtic language.

chronology Union with Great Britain In 1782 a Parliamentary faction led by Henry Grattan (a Protestant) successfully agitated for a more favourable trading relationship with England and for greater legislative independence for the Parliament of Ireland. However, London still controlled much of what occurred in Ireland.

4 facts to know about irish culture

N°3 ST PATRICK’S DAY Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.

92 % OF THE IRISH POPULATION ARE CATHOLIC The Catholic population of both the Republic and of Northern Ireland combined is about 3.9 million. It is estimated there are 1,300 parishes served by 4,000 priests. There are an estimated 20,000 people in various religious orders of priests, brothers and nuns. The Catholic Church is involved in education and health services. The Church cooperates with State agencies in education and welfare. The Irish Catholic Church sends over 4,500 missionaries to 85 different countries throughout Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and Oceania. Christianity is the largest religion in the Republic of Ireland based on baptisms. Irish Christianity is dominated by the Roman Catholic Church which has 84.2% of the population as followers. Most churches are organised on an all-Ireland basis which includes both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
