Definitions and Concepts The language concept is First Official Language Spoken (FOLS), which is a derived language concept based on three census questions on knowledge of languages, mother tongue and home language. Multiple responses have been assigned equally according to declared languages. The RSS is the region socio-sanitaire which corresponds to the health regions of Quebec. The RTS is the réseau territorial des services which corresponds to the territories covered by the CISSS and CIUSSS bodies that were created recently by the government of Quebec. The low-income cut-off (LICO) is defined as the income below which a family is likely to spend 20% more of its income on food, shelter and clothing than the average family. The “low income” measure used here refers to individuals who have less than $20,000 in after-tax income.

Définitions et concepts Le concept linguistique est la première langue officielle parlée (PLOP), qui est un concept de langage dérivé fondé sur trois questions du recensement sur la connaissance des langues, la langue maternelle et la langue parlée à la maison. Les réponses multiples ont été reparties également selon les langues déclarées. Le RSS est la région socio-sanitaire. Le RTS est le réseau territorial des services qui correspond aux territoires couverts par les organismes CISSS et CIUSSS qui ont été créés récemment par le gouvernement du Québec. Le seuil de faible revenu (SFR) est défini comme le revenu en dessous duquel une famille consacre probablement 20% de plus de son revenu à la nourriture, au logement et à l'habillement que la famille moyenne. Le «faible revenu» mesure ici les personnes dont le revenu après impôt est inférieur à 20 000 $.

Consistent and compelling international research highlights the impacts of language barriers on participation in health promotion and prevention activities; delayed presentation for care; barriers to initial access for most health services; increased risks of misdiagnosis; poorer patient understanding of and adherence to prescribed treatment; lower patient satisfaction; increased risk of experiencing adverse events; poorer management of chronic disease; and less effective pain management. Les recherches internationales ont établi de manière probante et systématique les répercussions négatives des barrières linguistiques : faible participation aux activités de promotion de la santé et de prévention des maladies; demandes de soins tardives; accès initial problématique à la plupart des services de santé; risques accrus d’erreurs de diagnostic; problèmes de compréhension et d’observance du traitement prescrit; satisfaction moindre des patients; risque accru de subir des événements indésirables; moins bonne gestion des maladies chroniques; et gestion moins efficace de la douleur. English-speaking Community of Laval According to the 2016 Census of Canada, the Laval RTS region has a population of 410,850 citizens. There are 90,980 English-speaking individuals living in the Laval region (RTS) of Quebec representing 21.8% of the total population of Laval. There are 19,930 English-speaking seniors (55+). There are 9,835 English-speaking seniors (65+).

La communauté anglophone de Laval Selon le Recensement du Canada de 2016, la région RTS de Laval compte 410,850 habitants. Il y a 90,980 individus anglophones vivant dans la région de Laval (RTS) du Québec. Ce groupe représente 21,8% de la population totale de Laval. Il y a 19,930 des aînés Anglophones (55+) Il y a 9,835 des aînés Anglophones (65+).
