Transcription de la présentation:

Expressing likes and dislikes use a conjugation of the infinitive verb AIMER add an infinitive of an action you like to do. J’aime danser. J’aime nager. I like to dance. I like to swim.

We can indicate that others LIKE TO DO things also We can indicate that others LIKE TO DO things also. Subject Pronouns in French Person Singular Plural First Person Je (j’) = I Nous = We Second person Tu = You (singular AND informal) Vous = You (Singular formal/plural for all Third person Il – He Elle - She Ils – They (masculine) Elles – They (feminine)

Each subject has a form (conjugation) of a verb infinitive Each subject has a form (conjugation) of a verb infinitive. Infinitive = AIMER Conjugations: They are made up of a stem+ending J’aime = I like Nous aimons = We like Tu aimes = You like Vous aimez = you like Il aime = He likes Elle aime = She likes Ils aiment = they like Elles aiment = they like

The stem does not change The ending has to agree with the subject pronoun of the sentence

Translate: 1. I like to dance. 2. He likes to swim. 3. They (m Translate: 1. I like to dance. 2. He likes to swim. 3. They (m.) like to horseback ride. 4. You (pl.) like to do housework. 5. We like to do shopping. 6. You (s.) like to read. 7. She likes to study. 8. They (f.) like to listen to music.

1. J’aime danser. 2. Il aime nager. 3. Ils aiment faire de l’équitation. 4. Vous aimez faire le ménage. 5. Nous aimons faire les magasins. 6. Tu aimes lire. 7. Elle aime étudier. 8. Elles aiment écouter de la musique.

To make any sentence negative we put Ne (n’)…Pas around the conjugated verb. So if you have a like and an infinitive the ne..pas goes around the conjugation of AIMER. Ex: J’aime nager. CHANGES TO Je n’aime pas nager. Make the previous 8 sentences negative.

1. Je n’aime pas danser. 2. Il n’aime pas nager. 3 1. Je n’aime pas danser. 2. Il n’aime pas nager. 3. Ils n’aiment pas faire de l’équitation. 4. Vous n’aimez pas faire le ménage. 5. Nous n’aimons pas faire les magasins. 6. Tu n’aimes pas lire. 7. Elle n’aime pas étudier. 8. Elles n’aiment pas écouter de la musique.

All of the verbs that end in ER like AIMER have the same six endings All of the verbs that end in ER like AIMER have the same six endings. To use those verbs in a sentence to indicate that you or others DO that action: 1. Find the stem by dropping the infinitive ending ER. 2. Add the appropriate ending. JE – e Tu – es Il/Elle – e NOUS – ons Vous – ez Ils/Elles - ent

Regarder – to watch JE REGARDE NOUS REGARDONS TU REGARDES VOUS REGARDEZ IL/ELLE ILS/ELLES REGARDENT

So any of the verbs that end in ER can be used in a sentence on their own to indicate that a person does that action. I watch tv Je regarde la tele. I LIKE TO WATCH tv J’aime regarder la tele. Complete ex. 6 and 7 on p. 40 in the text.
