POWERPOINT PRESENTATION FOR INTRODUCTION TO THE USE OF SPSS SOFTWARE FOR STATISTICAL ANALISYS BY AMINOU Faozyath UIL/PG2018/1866 JANUARY 2019

Outline What is SPSS? Utilities of SPSS How to use it Conclusion

What is SPSS ? SPSS means Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. It is a software used for statistical analysis. It is used by researchers in economics, health science, research companies, government, national education researchers, and so on.

UTILITIES OF SPSS Data entry and database management to organize a survey, create an input mask and to enter the data; To import/ export database on SPSS, and manipulate files. Data processing Missing values Recording variables

UTILITIES OF SPSS Data analysis Univariate analysis: study of the distribution of one or more variables(prevalence, incidence, average….); Bivariate analysis: study of the degree of relation and/or correlation between two variables (e.g. relation between smoking and lung cancer); Multivariate analysis: e.g. causal analysis(search for risk factors for disease. Graphical processing of the results: Histograms, curves.

How to use SPSS Click on the Start button, then on Program, then on SPSS Inc. and finally on SPSS Statistics 17.0 A typical session on SPSS will always have these three windows:  SPSS Dialog Box :offers choices of running the tutorial, typing in data, running queries, or opening an existing data source.  SPSS Data Editor :used to enter data, edit or delete data.

How to use SPSS  SPSS Viewer : appears after an analysis command has been performed, and contains the results of this analysis.

HOW TO USE SPSS ( SPSS Windows) SPSS Viewer SPSS Data Editor SPSS Dialog Box

How to use SPSS Open a file date: click on "File", then on "Open" and finally on "Data...» There, you can search your file in the directory where you saved it. Once our data is open, we can explore the two views mentioned above: the Data View and the Variable View:

How to use SPSS  Display of Data Each line represents a case, for example a subject; Each column represents a variable; Each cell contains a value of a case on a variable.

How to use SPSS  Variables view Each line represents a variable; The columns describe the characteristics of the variable. Creation of graphs To do this, go to your database (example: data.sav). Save it to your directory. Then open SPSS, go under File/Open/Data. Look your database that you want to process. Once the database is open, go to Graphs.

Conclusion In conclusion, SPSS is a software used for statistical analysis. Used in many areas of research. It has created a place in the world of computing and became indispensable. Can someone one day do without this kind of software?
