Point de départ Like other commonly used verbs, the verb faire (to do, to make) is irregular in the present tense.

Use the verb faire in these idiomatic expressions Use the verb faire in these idiomatic expressions. Note that it is not always translated into English as to do or to make.

Make sure to learn the correct article with each faire expression that calls for one. For faire expressions requiring a partitive or indefinite article, the article is replaced with de when the expression is negated.

Use faire la connaissance de before someone’s name or another noun that identifies a person.
