Sous le haut patronage de 5 th forum ISA-France – 15 & 16 June 2010 Espace Hamelin – 17, rue Hamelin Paris cedex 16 Organization With support of Under the patronage of With support of Introduction The notion of smart grid hinges on adding and integrating a diversity of digital communication technologies and services with the power-delivery infrastructure. Bi- directional flows of energy and two-way communication and control capabilities will enable an array of new functionalities and applications which will improve reliability, security and efficiency of the electric grids. Smart grids, notably thanks to a better transmission and distribution grid management, will contribute to peak-shaving, avoiding costly investment. They will also facilitate deployment and integration of distributed generation including renewable resources. More generally smart grids will participate in the limitation of CO 2 emissions, reducing the carbon footprint of the electric power system. However, smart grids are not only of interest to professionals. They will also affect the everyday life of citizens, thanks to the services offered by advanced metering infrastructures, enabling customer awareness of electricity pricing on a near real-time basis and permitting them to adapt their electricity consumption accordingly. They are a prerequisite for a large scale development of electrical vehicles. On the other hand, smart grids may suffer from cyber-vulnerability if sufficient attention is not paid to the risks of cyber-attacks. Smart grids involve a lot of advanced technologies, notably in the field of communications and automation. In all the countries, they constitute a challenge for the coming years and have received a high degree of priority in governmental stimulus plans. Who should attend? a The 2010 ISA-France Forum, organized under the patronage of Gimelec with the support of SEE, is of interest to all managers involved in technologies and services associated with generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, including automation, information technology, engineering, maintenance, cyber-security without forgetting those in charge of designing the future grids. At both extremity of the chain, it is also of interest to grid owners and to electricity consumer or distributed generators, should they be industrial, domestic or commercial. The Forum will shade the light to a new vision of grid management solutions, to new services benefitting to all stakeholders, perhaps resulting in a new repartition of responsibilities. ISA, The International Society of Automation ( is a global, nonprofit organization that comprises members and is setting the standard for automation by developing standards, certifying industry professionals, providing education and training, publishing books and technical articles and hosting the largest conference and exhibitions. ISA-France ( is also a nonprofit organization which serves as ISA French section. ISA-France provides its members with the access to an international professional network, with training sessions and exchange facilities trough its publications and its events. ISA- France is officially registered as training organization in France. SEE ( is a leading French professional scientific and technical society. It covers all areas related to electronics such as computers, telecoms, components, signal processing, automation, metrology, as well as those relating to electricity and electrical engineering such as electric power systems and equipment, for generation, transmission and distribution.
