Notes du terrain 03/14 (après 3 mois) Essentially we're allowing people to sell and buy what they couldn't before - at an average of 70 Shillings a day. What does an extra 70 Shillings mean to people in the slums? Actually it is a huge: 50 shillings can feed a child for a day. 60 shillings a day can put a child through school. 70 shillings can pay for a child's clinic visit. On a whole with nearly 170 businesses now part of the network we're seeing an overall increase of more than $100 USD per day. That is roughly $30,000 dollars after a year.

Notes du terrain (suite) These 170 businesses represent roughly 90% of the business community and are the foundation for all trade. By stabilizing them we are effecting a community of 20,000 people who depend on them for regular food and supplies. Just to give you an idea what market volatility looks like in a Kenyan slum. This graph is based on data we've collected for the last year. In red is their current daily sales revenue and in blue is the changes we are projecting based on current survey data. Essentially we're trying to both raise and level out that red line. (which equates to increasing sales and decreasing market chaos - which means more food on the table and kids in school)
