Les pronoms objet: direct >Ces pronoms reçoivent l’action du verbe directement et répondent à la question “qui” ou “quel” Le premier~ me (me- masc. ou fem.) nous (us- masc. ou fem.) Second ~ te (you- masc. ou fem., singular fam.) vous (you- masc. ou fem., singular formal ou plural) Troisieme~ le (him, it- masc.) la (her, it- fem.) les (them- masc. ou fem. Plural)

Les exemples >I’m looking for the cat. Je cherche le chat. Je le cherche. >He sees the table. Il voit la table. Il la voit. >You’re doing the exercises. Tu fais les exercices. Tu les fais. >I listen to the radio. J’écoute la radio. Je l’écoute.

**Une note **les verbes “regarder” (to look at), “chercher” (to look for), “écouter” (to listen to), et “attendre” (to wait for) reçoivent les pronoms directs **ces pronoms précédent le verbe (subject-object-verb.) Je te vois.

Les pronoms objet: indirect >ces pronoms comprenent “à” dans le sens. Le premier~ me (to me- masc. ou fem.) nous (to us- masc. ou fem.) Second ~ te (to you- masc. ou fem., singular fam.) vous (to you- masc. ou fem., singular formal ou plural) Troisieme~ lui (to him- masc. ou fem., singular) leur (to them- masc. ou fem., plural)

Les Examples >I’m calling him. Je lui téléphone. >We never disobey them. Nous ne leur désobéissons jamais. >He gave her a present. Il lui donne un cadeau. **Le pronom précéde toujours le verbe.

**** >When an object or reflexive pronoun is used with an infinitive construction, the pronoun precedes the verb of which it is the object, normally the infinitive >>Il voulait m’embrasser. >>Ne venez pas nous voir. >>Il veut le faire. >>Je peux lui parler. >>Il est alle la voir.

Plus >>If there is more than one pronoun in the sentence, they must coincide with this order: me te nous vous lui leur y en le la les >>when AVOIR is used as the helping verb, the conjugated verb must agree with the direct object pronoun J’ai ecrit les lettres -> Je les ai ecrites

Y et En >y and en replace things, places, ideas, or expressions, but do not replace people Y: >replaces prepositional phrases of location >replaces expressions in which the object of the preposition à is a thing >>He’s going to the airport. Il va à l’aéroport. Il y va. >>The flowers are on the table. Les fleurs sont sur la table. Elles y sont.

Penser à Penser à + a thing >Il pense à son voyage. = Il y pense. Penser à + a person >Je pense à mon père. = Je pense à lui.

En En replaces expressions with de. En also replaces nouns that are preceded by a number or description of quantity. >My sister’s returning from Paris. Ma soeur revient de Paris. Elle en revient. > He often talks about his problems. Il parle souvent de ses problèmes. Il en parle souvent.

En When en replaces nouns preceded by numbers, the noun is replaced but the number remains in the sentence >He had five drinks. Il a pris cinq verres. Il en a pris cinq. > Jean had eleven cousins. Jean a onze cousins. Jean en a onze.
